My Professional Development
Your Connection to Learning Opportunities on Campus

From: Peter D. Spear, Provost
I am pleased to announce a free, campus-wide, collaborative Web-based initiative that we are calling My Professional Development (www.myprofdev.wisc.edu). This new Web site is designed to be a clearinghouse for all professional development opportunities on campus - from classes, seminars, and special events to informal gatherings. I am writing to enlist your support and participation in this initiative as we get ready to launch it for campus-wide use.
As we all recognize, learning and development opportunities on campus are not just for students. Many campus departments and units offer faculty and staff an array of ways to enhance a career, strengthen academic preparation, and enhance personal growth. But because our campus is so large and decentralized, letting people know about these opportunities can be a challenge. It is not uncommon for a faculty or staff member to assume there are no training opportunities for them because they couldn't find the right person, course, brochure, Web site, poster, or memo. These resources are there - but people too often can't locate the information they need.
Here is how My Professional Development works to help solve these problems: Campus departments and units submit information about professional learning and development opportunities directly to My Professional Development via the Web, much as is already done for the university calendar. Then, those looking for opportunities and resources can log on to www.myprofdev.wisc.edu, complete a profile of their needs and interests, and search for the appropriate listings.
Your unit's participation in submitting development opportunities to www.myprofdev.wisc.edu is essential to the success of this initiative. And the benefits to your program could be substantial. You will experience increased visibility with My Professional Development, reaching the entire campus population. With your cooperation and support, My Professional Development can enhance the faculty and staff experience by becoming the essential connection to professional development opportunities on campus.
If you or others in your unit have any questions about the program, please contact our project manager, Don Schutt, at either 608-265-0836 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
